These Terms of Use govern your use of the Lumen Institute website, our member communications, and the services we provide to members, applicants and guests. By using this website, applying for membership, or receiving communications from us, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

In these terms, “Lumen Institute”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Lumen Institute, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with its mailing address at PO Box 3542, Allentown, PA 18106-0542. “You” means the person using the site or receiving our communications.

How we handle personal information is described separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Who we are

Lumen Institute is a Catholic organization for business and societal leaders who seek personal development in character, faith and leadership. We run local chapters, hold events and leadership circles, provide spiritual coaching through our chaplains, and communicate with our members and applicants by email, text message and post.

Membership and applications

Membership is by application and is not automatic. Submitting an application does not create a membership, and it does not oblige us to accept you. We may accept, decline or withdraw membership at our discretion.

If you apply, you confirm that the information you give us is accurate and that it is yours to give. Please do not submit another person’s contact details, including a spouse’s or a colleague’s, unless they have asked you to or have agreed to it. This matters more than it may seem. We use those details to contact people, and a number or address given without permission results in someone receiving messages they never asked for.

Members are expected to engage with the community in a manner consistent with the character and values of the organization. We may end a membership where conduct is inconsistent with those values, or where a member misuses our communications, our directory, or the personal information of other members.

Acceptable use of this site

You may use this site for its intended purposes. You may not:

  • attempt to reach any part of the site, our systems, or another person’s account that you have not been given access to;
  • copy, extract, scrape or republish the contents of any member directory, chapter listing, or contact information;
  • use our communications, forms or contact details to send unsolicited messages;
  • interfere with the operation or security of the site, or probe or test it;
  • use the site or our services for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that would harm another person.

Member and contact information held by Lumen Institute is confidential. It is made available to chapter leaders and chaplains for the purpose of running the organization. It may not be used for personal solicitation, commercial marketing, political campaigning, or any purpose unrelated to Lumen Institute.

Messaging Terms

This section governs our email and text message programs. It applies to you if you give us your email address or your mobile number.

Email

We send members, applicants and guests messages about chapter activity, events, formation content and organizational news. Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing stops those messages. It does not stop essential account or security messages, such as a password reset you asked for.

Text messages

By giving us your mobile number and agreeing to receive text messages, you consent to receive text messages from Lumen Institute at that number. These may include event reminders, chapter announcements, formation content, and administrative messages about your membership. Messages may be sent using an automatic telephone dialing system.

  • Consent is not a condition of purchase or of membership. You do not have to agree to text messages in order to apply, to join, or to take part in anything we do.
  • Message frequency varies. In the ordinary course you should not expect more than 10 messages per month.
  • Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier may charge you for messages you send to us or receive from us. We do not control those charges.
  • To stop receiving messages, reply STOP to any message from us. You will receive one confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and then nothing further. You can also contact us using the details below.
  • For help, reply HELP to any message, or contact us at marketing@lumeninstitute.org or (888) 673-3844.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  • Supported carriers may change without notice.

Please only give us a mobile number that belongs to you. If your number changes, or is reassigned to someone else, tell us, so that messages intended for you do not reach a stranger.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share your mobile number or your consent to receive text messages with anyone for their own marketing purposes. This is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.

Events

Event details, dates and locations may change. Where an event has a fee, the payment terms and any refund policy are stated at the point of registration. Photographs and recordings may be taken at Lumen Institute events. Please tell the organizer if you would prefer not to appear in them.

Donations

Lumen Institute, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 45-1704799, and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your own tax advisor about your particular circumstances.
